1935 - On the way from Kansas to Oregon, they visited the Tarr's in Colorado (Jessie's sister Ida). Jesse saw the great farm land and had to try his hand. Part of the deal of the log house they rented was they had to grow sugar beets, but the market for the sugar beets was too far away to be profitable. One night the roof caught fire and the house burned down. All the neighbors came running over to help, they carried all the possessions out. After that, the family moved to Hillsboro, Oregon
